Eyes over D-Day: The very personal journey of a reconnaissance pilot in the 2nd Tactical Airforce.

Club Shack Sun 12 Jan 14:30 - 17:00

F/Lt ‘Joe’ Boughey was involved every step of the way in the D-Day operations. A highly trained bomber pilot and navigator, he took part in the early testing of the top-secret “Rebecca-Eureka” homing beacon technology. He was one of the first pilots to see D-Day unfold, and at dawn was acting as a spotter for flag ship HMS Belfast’s opening salvos against the German heavy beach defences.

Our speaker, Mark Lemon, is a keen military historian, and a volunteer at Bentley Priory Museum, home to WW2 fighter command. He has spent several years researching his father-in-law Joe’s role in the RAF. Mark’s talk will include a short video and a break for comments and questions.
