Throughout the weekend of 6th and 7th April, RSH members operated the club HF station during the Airfields on The Air (AOTA) special event.

The purpose of AOTA is to activate stations at any current or old RAF Military Establishment which was used during the wars or perhaps may still be in current use. The RSH shack is located at the former Bushey Hall site, which was used by the RAF and then, during the second world war, as the headquarters (AJAX) of the US Army Air Force (USAAF) Fighter command.

Over 90 stations, including several other AOTA stations, were worked during the two days of operation, the vast majority being on 40 Metres.

It gave an opportunity for those new to HF operating, including one newly successful Foundation Licence exam candidate, to operate the station alongside experienced HF operators. Our thanks to all who volunteered to supervise at the shack over the two days, and those whose joined us to operate.

A great time was had by all and the RSH is planning some more operating events during the coming months.
